Suomeksi alempana

The drive behind this exhibition is that art should be accessible, bring joy in the urban landscape and to try out spontaneous inspiring and creative synergies.

The idea for this exhibition was born in a semi-spontaneous encounter between project manager Nana Blomqvist, graphic designers and artists Jenny Wiik, Sibel Kantola and Paul Krispijn in Sibel’s Gallery Mökkigalleria.

The proposal for Chromophilia came from a prompt from project manager Nana Blomqvist, who organized a photo exhibition earlier on this wall during summer 2021. The proposal was simply: “There could be something colourful for the darkening Autumn times”.

Jenny, Sibel and Paul had a vision on how to do this and got down to work immediately. All three artists are experienced in working with bold colours in their art.

Chromophilia: Sibel and Jenny collaborated in creating this part of the exhibition. They chose how to express the theme of colour individually for each artwork, and so the individual styles are clearly visible. Then, the artists named each other’s work! The artworks and the artists are in a colourful visual dialogue. The common theme being the love for colour and the eruption of spontaneous creativity in both creators. Posters of the artworks at display outdoors can be purchased in the Hubcafé at the same address, Luostarin Välikatu.

”Colour is Stronger than Language” – Paul’s work is based on video art. This video sequence has a length of about an hour that is looped, giving spectators an experience of continuous fluid changes, which can be seen as a reminder that things in life never stay the same. It is good to embrace these changes. Change can bring hope and hope is what we need, especially in these times we live in! The installation can be viewed after dark Tuesdays until approximately 10pm, Thursdays and Saturdays until the end of October.

Colour is joy, symbolism, power, feeling. We invite you to allow our artworks to give you a moment of joy, peace or inspiration.

The frames are funded by Stiftelsen för Åbo Akademi and constructed by Hasan Al-Rubaye.

Signed posters of the artworks are available in the Hub shop and café until the end of October á 32 euros each. The café is open during weekdays 11 am to 5 pm. Also frames of the model as in the exhibition can be ordered at the Hub café.

Taide tulisi olla helposti lähestyttävä, tuoda iloa kaupunkikuvaan ja olla kokeileva, inspiroiva ja tuoda luovaa synergiaa.

Näyttelyn idea tuli projektipäällikön Nana Blomqvistin, graafisen suunnittelijoiden ja taiteilijoiden Jenny Wiikin, Sibel Kantolan ja Paul Krispijnin spontaanisesta tapaamisesta Sibelin taidegalleriassa Mökkigalleria.

Nana oli järjestänyt valokuvanäyttelyn aikaisemmin kesällä 2021 Luostarin välikadun seinillä. Hänen toivomus oli yksinkertaisesti että kadulla voisi olla jotain värikästä kun syksyn pimeys on tulossa.

Jennyllä, Sibelillä ja Paulilla oli näkemys miten tätä voisi saavuttaa, ja rupesivat heti tuottaa taidenäyttelyn teoksia. Kaikki kolme taiteilijaa ovat tottuneita käyttämään vahvoja värejä taiteessaan.

Chromophilia: Sibel ja Jenny tekivät yhteistyötä tähän osaan näyttelystä. He ilmaisevat väriteemaa omilla tavoillaan, mutta sitten he ovat antaneet nimet toisen taiteilijan teoksille. Teokset ja taiteilijat ovat värikkäässä visuaalisessa vuoropuhelussa. Heidän rakkaus väriä kohtaan on yhdistävä voima ja on johtanut spontaaniin luovaan purkaukseen heissä molemmissa.

”Colour is Stronger than Language” – Paulin työ on videotaideteos. Video on noin tunnin pituinen ja siinä on jatkuvaa, sujuvaa muutosta, joka muistuttaa miten elämä ei koskaan pysy samana. Muutos voi tuoda toivoa, ja me tarvitaan toivoa nyt enemmän kuin koskaan.

Väri on ilo, symboliikka, voima, tunnetta. Me kutsutaan teidät kokemaan taidettamme, ja toivottavasti saatte hetken iloa, rauhaa tai inspiraatiota.

Stiftelsen för Åbo akademi on rahoittanut kehykset, ja Hasan Al-Rubaye on rakentanut niitä. Hub Turun kahvilassa voi ostaa allekirjoitettuja ja numeroituja julisteita näyttelyn teoksista. Kahvila on auki arkipäivisin klo 11-17. Kahvilasta voi myös tilata teoksien kehyksiä omaksi. Rakennutamme ne tilauksesta saman mallisina.
